Heading
We got up this morning ready to make our journey out to the village in the sugar fields. Dear Lorne had a rough night and was not feeling up to the journey which made him feel so sad.
Elaine tucked him in bed and the rest of us piled in the van for the 45 minute drive to we didn’t know where. Batey Vasca was a surprise to me. We found a small village of cement block houses a church, a community centre and a small primary school with 60 students. There was much evidence of poverty and need, but it was a peaceful community.
We met David and Ana who are the reason we came to this community. They are a godly couple with a beautiful story of God’s goodness in the midst of pain and suffering, His abundant provision and His perfect timing. They are committed to being the peace and presence of God in this community.
Speaking of perfect timing, late last week David was involved in an accident in his vehicle that made a mess of the front end of his vehicle. This vehicle acts as a major mode of transportation in the community, as well as ambulance/emergency vehicle, so it was disheartening to have it wrecked.
David had replaced the radiator and got it running, but it still needed a lot of body work to be road worthy. Enter four unexpected hands of God. Kevin and Dell set straight to work pulling and pushing, hammering and straightening and within a few hours they had the truck looking road worthy, although scarred. David and Anna were so blessed by what they were able to do.
In the meantime the ladies all enjoyed an hour of joyful chaos at the school with bubbles, balls and skipping ropes.
This was a place where I (we) learned more about the gift of listening and loving. We didn’t have much time or much work here, but we listened to David and Anna’s story and prayed with them, they heard some of our story and prayed for us. It was a chance to slow down and be. And it was good.
and Lorne is feeling much better tonight.
