Sunday March 23
Our day started with a wonderful breakfast of oatmeal pancakes, fruit and juice made by our amazing cooks from tamarind fruit. Then off to Sunday service with the school staff and locals in Juan Tomas. This event takes place in the chapel on the school property. Our brother Dell had the privilege of playing back up guitar with the worship team. The worship was very uplifting and even though it was in Spanish we could feel the genuine spirit of worship and praise God together.
Pastor Richard gave an amazing sermon on forgiveness, with Jonathan, grandson of the founder of the English program here, as a translator. His English is impeccable. Using Matthew 18:23-35 as his text as well as verses 15 & 21, we learned forgiveness needs to be done with enthusiasm, truly with all our heart full of love. Pastor Richard also spoke on the dangers of unforgiveness, likening it to stagnant water. The lack of forgiveness affects our relationship with God. He wrapped it up with Joseph‘s example, saying to his brothers “don’t be afraid, am I in the place of God?” Judgement belongs to God- our place is to forgive so as not to damage our relationship with God.
After lunch, we met Carlos for about 15 minutes, dropping off the van in order that we could be transported by Richard to Santo Domingo. We visited the huge Galeria 360 mall. It felt just like home!! Had our evening meal there, stopped at Price Mart (like our Costco) for some ice cream and headed back to Juan Tomas in the warm rain. Yes it rained off and on here today. So refreshing- feels just like home, only warmer.
We all feel very blessed to be here, and as usual, we feel more blessed than we were a blessing. Would not hesitate to come back should the opportunity arise again.
