Randy and Sandra Huebert, originally from Lloydminster, Alberta, have been involved in missions in Ensenada, Mexico since 2008. After working in different communities and impoverished areas around Ensenada, God placed a burden on their hearts to begin a safe home (Casa Esther) for at-risk girls that have been rescued from situations of neglect, abuse, prostitution, and drugs.
El Refugio is located in Ensenada and was built to provide a safe haven for girls in their care to live, complete their schooling and have a safe place to overcome trauma. As well, El Refugio provides a unique place where the girls can connect with those from Canada and the USA to participate in ministry opportunities in and around Ensenada, together. The primary ministry is Casa Esther. The girls are shown God's love not only through the provision of their physical needs but also through the examples of their spiritual family in the home and at church. They receive an education including medical care, counselling, and spiritual care through Bible studies and prayer.
