About Cambodia

Cambodia is a country located in the southern portion of the Indochina Peninsula in Southeast Asia.

With a population of over 16.6 million, Cambodia is the 68th most populous country in the world. Rebuilding from decades of civil war, Cambodia has seen rapid progress in its economy and human resources. Strong garment and textiles, agriculture, construction, and tourism sectors has led to foreign investments and international trade.

Despite the rapid advancement of resources, Cambodia remains one of the poorest countries in Asia, and long-term economic development remains a daunting challenge inhibited by endemic corruption, limited educational opportunity, high income inequality and poor job prospects.

Hungry For Life supports our international partners in Cambodia with a focus on educational development.

Communities

Tang Khiev

Tang Khiev is a small community located 38 km north of Phnom Penh, near a city called Oudong. This community was formed in January 2009 when the members were forcibly removed from their land in Phnom Penh after it had been sold to a development company. Tang Khiev stands for ‘Blue Tent’ as the community initially had no housing and were forced to live under blue tarpaulins. Since then, the community has grown, and Manna4Life has been involved in the ongoing education and development efforts in Tang Khiev.

Phnom Penh

Phnom Penh is the vibrant capital city of Cambodia, nestled along the banks of the Mekong River. This metropolis blends the country's rich history with modern development, with a mix of ancient temples, the Royal Palace and the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, alongside gleaming skyscrapers. The city reflects Cambodia's progress and transformation over the years. There remain many challenges, as development and expansion benefit those with money, and many more are pushed aside to make space or wrestle with the challenges of physical poverty that impacts many across the city.
