What a great day we had today! Today we accomplished so much at the construction site where we each separated, doing the jobs we found the most enjoyable. There was a ton of progress made in excavation, pillar construction, as well as a very interesting construction method known as forming! Though we weren’t always great at everything, they were so patient and kind with us so we could have the opportunity to help. After construction was finished at lunch time, we returned to Pastor Victor’s where we split into two groups, one to work on delivering groceries to poorer areas of the community and one to practice some English worship songs to share with the Jesus Viene youth church service.
In the afternoon we delivered food hampers to people in the community. The poverty here is unlike anything many of us have experienced; we served a 92 year-old widow who literally had nothing. She was hard of hearing, nearly blind, and still had a smile that could light up a dozen rooms. It was her faith and love of Jesus that keeps her going, and the love she had for all of us is something we will never forget.
It was such an amazing experience to be able to sing worship songs with the people here, even though we don’t speak the same language. It was great to be able to connect to the youth through music and games, and it was so much fun when we were called back for an “encore” after finishing the worship songs we prepared. After that, we got to play youth games, which was so fun to be able to connect with the others. Today was such an amazing experience and I am endlessly grateful to be able to be here.
