God's Sovereignty, Parental Responsibility, and Community Impact
Our Sunday began at 10 am with approximately 100 of us gathered for worship, beginning by reciting Psalm 56 together and singing several hymns and songs. About 50 children then went to their Sunday school classes run by our ladies up on the rooftop, engaging in a Bible story and a crown craft tailored to their age group.
Joven delivered a meaningful bilingual message based on 2 Samuel 18, highlighting the story of Absalom, whose desire for power left him caught by his long hair in a tree, suspended between heaven and earth. Joven emphasized the importance of intentional fatherhood and the lasting impact fathers have on their children through their actions and example. He reminded us there are no accidents in God's sovereign plan, and he challenged parents to actively invest time and effort into raising their children in the fear and knowledge of the Lord. Rather than allowing cellphones or other influences to take on the role of parenting, Joven urged fathers, especially, to embrace their God-given responsibility to lead and guide their families intentionally.
We also heard an inspiring testimony from Junylon, who shared how God saved him and transformed his life five years ago. He was raised Catholic and struggled with various vices and sincerely asked God to prove His power and reality. God responded dramatically, freeing him from these struggles and leading him to Truth. Junylon has since taught his wife to read, using Scripture as their primary teaching material, further grounding their family in God’s Word.
In the afternoon, we enjoyed a beach event with 10 high school youth aged 14-18, engaging in meaningful conversations, games, and fellowship. It was an important time connecting with these young people, discussing their faith, and encouraging them during a formative period in their lives. This community lost 20 youth to suicide during the pandemic and the lasting pain is deep.
The day concluded on the rooftop, where Joven shared more about his journey and calling. It’s remarkable to see how deeply he has impacted the local community—wherever we go, people speak warmly about Joven’s kindness, generosity, and dedication. Through feeding programs, education initiatives, medical relief, outreach ministries, and providing essential water supplies to locals, his genuine compassion has a powerful impact throughout the community.
We are humbled and grateful to be part of such impactful ministry here in Boracay.
