Heading
The effects of jet lag linger, waking some of us before dawn. But in these early, quiet hours, there is a gift—time to slow down and take in the small details we might otherwise miss. The crash of the waves and the quiet stirrings of Boracay before the island fully wakes.
Soon after breakfast , we were back at the worksite. Today’s focus: completing the roof trusses and strapping, getting everything prepared for the tin roofing. Us white folks are not quite built for slaving in the heat!
At noon, we returned to the hotel for lunch before setting off for a different kind of experience—paraw sailing. Experiences like this really showcase the reality of extreme poverty right in the midst of the luxurious tourist lifestyle.
The afternoon brought a shift in focus, from building homes to delivering hope. We distributed 27 food hampers to families in need—widows, widowers, the elderly, and young parents struggling to provide. The gratitude in their eyes and the moments of connection reminded us why we are here. We closed each home visit with prayer and the requests from the recipients was largely around family and health showcasing their priorities.
As evening settled in, we returned for supper, sharing stories from the day. We ended the night gathered in song, in devotion and reflection.
Winding down for the week.
One thing this week has shown is just how grateful we aught to be.
