A Dream Realized: Bringing Health and Hope to the Bateyes
Years ago, I shared a dream with Jason—a vision to address the pressing need for nutritious vegetables in the bateyes. Today, that dream became reality through the incredible teamwork and generosity of so many.
On our way to the bateyes, we stopped at a grocery store and filled six carts with fresh produce, spending what an average family might budget for a week’s worth of food. These vegetables became 24 food hampers filled with items like beets, avocados, sweet potatoes, and coriander—foods some recipients hadn’t seen in years. The joy on the faces of the elderly Haitian couple who received the first package was indescribable. I had the privilege of teaching them how to prepare and enjoy the produce, but this was only a small part of the greater mission.
The generosity of Gleaners, with their container of dehydrated vegetables and beans, and Norm’s donation brought this vision to life. Together, they provided sustenance and hope to those who needed it most.
Today, we also cared for 103 patients, including 19 treated by Dr. Jeff, who helped many experience relief from chronic pain for the first time in years.
Sharing this day with my family, friends, and the beautiful people of Vasca was a reminder that hope, love, and collaboration can truly transform lives. Thank you is not enough. Together, we are making a difference.
