Day 35 - April 14
How has Christ been generous to you?
If you’ve ever worked retail, been part of a product-based business, or counted cash, you may have recollections (possibly akin to horror movies) of taking inventory before the end of a shift of at year end.
I do (shudder).
The phrase taking inventory has evolved to include thoughtful self-examination – a worthwhile endeavour. There might be areas of your life where you still shudder at the thought of sober assessment.
Yet, how often do you stop and take inventory of all the ways that Jesus has been generous to you, to us? What if we set aside time – at the end of a day or a year – to name, count, or reflect on the blessings and gifts God has given us?
What might an inventory checklist look like?
Holding 2-day-old golden lab puppies and Joshua Tree National Monument holidays are in my inventory. But also on my list are the generous spiritual gifts that are my inheritance because of Christmas, Good Friday, and Easter: a relationship with the God of the universe, the encouragement that God knows me, the abundance of blessings that come with being a child of God, the gift of new spiritual life now and eternally, and the privilege of sharing in Christ’s suffering in order to share in His resurrection.
This abundant generosity was costly for Jesus.
I invite you to pause today and to make your own inventory. Then let the moment move you to respond in gratitude and give thanks.
Day 36 – April 15
What is one way you could be more generous with your resources (time, talent and skills, relationships, finances)?
