Day 31 - April 9
How could you increase time for listening to God?
The simple answer: plan for it!
Make a commitment, create a plan, set an alarm, and follow through. Being intentional about spending time with God is half the battle. Once we put ourselves in a position to listen - whether through prayer, reading Scripture, or sitting in silence - God will meet us there. James 4:8 says, “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” God desires to speak to us, but are we willing to slow down and listen?
Let’s remember that Satan does not want this to happen. He works to distract us, discourage us, and keep us from spending time with God. Ephesians 6:12 reminds us, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Every time we choose to draw near to God, we are engaging in spiritual warfare. The enemy will use busyness, fatigue, and even doubt to pull us away; however, we must stand firm.
That’s why discipline and vigilance are crucial. 1 Peter 5:8 warns us, “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” Instead of letting Satan win this war, we can put on the full armor of God, resist distractions, and ask God for help. Philippians 4:13 reminds us, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
So, make that commitment today! Set aside time, remove distractions, and enter God’s presence with a heart ready to listen. The more we practice this, the more we will recognize His voice and experience the peace that comes from truly knowing Him. Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still, and know that I am God.” In the stillness, He speaks. Let’s make time to listen.
