Day 27 – April 4
What distractions, fears, or sins keep you from spending time with God?
I often find myself thinking about death and, in light of that, what truly matters in life.
I’m not sure if you have a mind like mine, but I’m sure you also wonder what truly matters when all is said and done in this life. Will it be the money I accumulated, the way my house looked, or how ‘perfect’ I appeared to others? Ultimately, none of these things will matter. What does matter is our relationship with God and with others - especially our relationship with God, which is the most important of all.
Let’s consider again Jesus’ words in Matthew 22:37: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." He must be our greatest treasure, not the temporary things of this world. When we stand before God one day, it won’t be our possessions or achievements that define us. It will be our relationship with Him.
At death, our relationships with others will be temporarily interrupted, but our relationship with God is eternal. Romans 8:38-39 reminds us, "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." We can lose everything, yes, but no one can take God away from us.
Let’s press into that truth as we get closer to Easter. Keeping our attention on who truly matters can help keep us from being distracted, afraid, or tempted by sin.
Would you like God become the most important presence in your life - the One you treasure above all else? Matthew 6:33 encourages us, "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." When we prioritize God above all, we gain something that can never be lost - eternal life with Him, now and forever.
Day 28 – April 5
What draws you close to God?
Sunday – April 6
If someone asked you, "Who is the God you are praying to?", how would you describe God to them?
