Day 11 - March 17

How can you fast in a way that draws you closer to Jesus?

Have you ever heard someone talk about a trip they have been on or a restaurant they went to and, while they are talking, you realize that you have been to that same place? Their words connect you to images, sounds and tastes that you have stored in your mind. As they relay their experiences, it’s easy for you to picture what it might have been like. Shared experience always brings us together. When you experience a joy or a sorrow, you are uniquely equipped to connect with another who has also experienced those things.

As we think about fasting for Lent, we turn our attention to the fasting and suffering of Jesus our Saviour. We share an experience with Jesus. We reflect on the sacrifices made by our God – the One who created the universe. Jesus came to earth, to His creation, in a weak, limited human body, and Heeven chose to forgo the comfort of food in order to connect with his Father.

1 Peter 4:13 says "But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed."

There is something unique about changing our lifestyle to fast. As we give up some of our comfort and replace it with time with God, we will be made aware of His presence in a deeper way and know him for who He is.

As you fast, use this time to seek the person of Jesus. Ask Him to reveal himself more and more to you.

Day 12 - March 18

What does Jesus' death mean to or for you today?
