Today was day 5 for the team in beautiful Ensenada! As per our regular morning routine, we had team devotions and breakfast together. Todays devotion was fitting for our day ahead, talking about seeing poverty and knowing that it is not about the things around us that make us rich, rather our relationship with God. We read Luke 18 and reflected together about what this looks like.
We then loaded up in the vans and drove to a local migrant camp. Workers come from the South of Mexico looking for work and come to Ensenada to work in the fields. The migrant camp is a group of small cement shacks that families of the workers live in, paying a lot in rent for the small amount they have. We brought along some soccer balls and instantly made friends with the many little kids there. Others played some games with the kids and spent a lot of time with more Pato Pato Gatso (duck duck goose). Once we played games we gathered the kids and shared about the Good Samaritan and we sang some songs with actions. We had brought along some string and made bracelets with the kids which was more challenging then planned as a lot of the children were toddlers, but all in all we had a good time. We served some snacks, watermelon, cookies and oatmeal and handed out the food hampers that we put together the day before. Overall we really enjoyed our time at the camp and prayed we were a blessing to the people living there in hard conditions.
Once coming home and eating lunch we headed down the road to the beach with the girls! We swam in the warm water and jumped in the waves. The Vickar's and Tamara all tried surfing for the first time and were able to body board some waves! We really enjoyed spending time with the girls and the beauty of Mexico together.
Honourable mention to Scott that stayed back from the beach to help some of the staff here with the construction of the new pool that was donated earlier this week. He was a huge blessing to the ministry using his construction knowledge and being able to put that skill to good use!
For the evening, some of the team stayed back at the house and rested and prepared food for tomorrow while Char, Tamara and Trudie went with the girls to another kickboxing class! They all enjoyed trying something new and having the girls show us their skills.
We returned to the house late and hungry to have some delicious tacos for dinner! We are all feeling tired from the week but also with very full hearts as we know our time in Ensenada is almost finished.
Thank you for your continued prayers!
