Two houses become homes for families

Due to the increased violence and instability in the capital city of Port au Prince, thousands of Haitians have been fleeing their homes to seek refuge from gang violence in the surrounding countryside. It is estimated that gangs currently control 60% of the capital city, causing not only increased unrest but also a decline in basic services.

UCI was able to purchase a small plot of land on which to build a few homes for families moving from the capital city. Earlier this year, the first house was completed, and the Francis family was moved into their new home!

Now construction on a second house on the same piece of property has been completed for another family moving from Port au Prince!

Both homes are strategically constructed with a small wing of 3 apartments that will be utilized to house university students whose rent will provide a steady source of income for each family.
