As gang violence and political unrest continue to devastate Haiti, our partner, Haiti Bible Mission, has been a beacon of light to the people they serve in the surrounding communities. Thousands of Haitians have fled the capital city to seek refuge from the gang violence, putting a larger burden on the already fragile food supply in Jeremie. Funds provided to our partner enable them to continue distributing food to those most in need.
Here is a short update from Eldet: “The food is so important now for the people in Haiti because the key drivers of the current food insecurity are increased gang violence, rising prices and low agricultural production, as well as political turmoil. An estimated 362,000 people are now internally displaced in Haiti and have difficulties feeding themselves, and many children are dying from starvation. This food is a huge impact in making a difference for us in Jeremie!”
