Day 19 – March 26
What one thing could you 'add in' or 'feast on' this Lent?
I was in a mentoring group a few years ago, and one of the participants asked our leader, “What are you giving up for Lent?”
She answered, “I don’t give anything up. I add things in.” She added in the practice of being grateful by writing one thank you card to someone each day, expressing her gratitude for having that person in her life.
Maybe you’re finally excited about this Lenten thing at last! Yes, you can feel free to completely rewrite the script and flip from fasting to feasting or giving up to adding in. How very like Jesus, throwing a party instead of doing something traditionally religious. Yes, keep the commitment to your decided on fast! Or make a new commitment today to add something in. Of course, feel free to do both.
Jesus is delighted to meet you - in your fast or as you add in spiritual activities or practices. God is not limited to one way of creating spiritual connection and belonging.
Over these days, our prayer at HFL is that we all experience a deep connection with God, the overflow of which is often an increased desire and commitment to our spiritual growth. Maybe that connection requires something different this Lent for you: a sense of new life, abundant blessing, having all you need, and experiencing immeasurably more! Those things are all outcomes of the resurrection. Yet, Jesus gave up so much for us. This is why we seek to connect with Him through fasting.
Of course, to add spiritual activities in, you will need to surrender space for the resurrected One.
May you trust God to continue to guide you in all things.
Day 20 - March 27
How could you create margin in your life for the things of God?
