Today was our first work day! We have the pleasure of building a house for Basilia and Pastor (yes, that is his name!) and their three kids. Pastor has been battling cancer and has not been able to work for a while due to pain and other complications. They have been living in a small shack, sleeping on one mattress for a long time, and a house is something they would not be able to achieve on their own. We met their pastor, Jairo, who described them as faithful Christians, never asking anything for themselves, and despite their very challenging situation, always offering their help to others.
Today was a beautiful start to the project. We prayed over the home, and got straight to work and ended the day (a little) ahead of schedule - many hands make light work! Everyone on the team worked hard doing painting, framing, and cutting.
We spent the evening doing devotions, which Caleb led, and playing board games with the girls at El Refugio.
Tomorrow we look forward to a Mexican church service and some fun activities with the girls.
