Back to work

Heading

We had a rather late start to the morning today. Fireworks and music played on until the early hours.

The team prepared lunch and activities to take with us as we went to the Seniors Center on the outskirts of town. After weaving through dirt roads, we pulled up to a small compound with colofrul, brightly painted houses. The residents, affectionately called abuelas and abuelos, greeted us outside.

We gathered in the dining hall to sing songs together and do some light stretches and exercises. Now we were ready to serve their eagerly awaited lunch- a filling meal that is not often had.

As the abuelos finished up the last of their dessert(canned peaches) we headed over to their living quarters to begin cleaning. We swept moped, rubbed, and then scrubbed some more while the residents played an exciting game of bingo.

Our time with the seniors passed quickly and soon we were headed home to begin dinner. Tonight we served bogrács soup.

Of course, no day is complete without taking time to study the Bible. After dinner, we again gathered in the dining hall to hear Andrea's devotional for the evening. With last night's New Years festivities still fresh in our minds, we lead an activity for the girls- we built and decorated floating lanterns with Bible verses and prayers for the new year, to be released into the water later this week.

‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭5:17‬
[17] Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
