Mount Cheam Community Group

Mount Cheam Community Group was formed to allow senior high school students to be involved in projects of lasting impact while raising awareness in their own community for the needs of the global community. Engaging students' specific skills, expanding their world view, and caring for the needs of widow, orphans and the less fortunate is just a part of what this group hopes to accomplish.

This vision was put into action and a partnership with Manis and Judy Dilus and Lemuel Ministries in Haiti was established. In 2016 the first team of students travelled to Northern Haiti on a trip facilitated by Hungry For Life. Since that time Mount Cheam Community Group has stayed involved with Lemuel by assisting with community development and construction of a school.

In July, a team of 11 students and teachers returned to the community of Grand Diable in Northwest Haiti to continue their work with Lemuel. They worked alongside locals to assist in the construction of the primary school building, participated in agricultural projects including planting trees, and did home visits throughout the community to the sick, elderly and widows.

"The fact that people have to go everyday without sufficient food & water is unnecessary!"

In March, a team of 13 traveled to Haiti to work alongside Lemuel Ministries in Anse Rouge. The team, comprised of secondary students, worked with the locals to help repair damaged homes from the hurricane, assisted with the construction of a new home, assisted in an agricultural project, provided food gift baskets during home visits of widows and elderly in the community, and taught English and computer classes.

"I realized that we cannot help everyone, but those that we do help, we change their lives significantly."

A team of 10, including HFL team leader Jason Krul and group leader Stephan Hoogendijk, hope to travel to Haiti to work alongside Lemuel ministries in Anse Rouge. The team comprised of secondary students will be working with the locals to help construct a much needed community latrine, assist with the construction of a house, provide food gift baskets during home visits of widows and elderly in the community, and help facilitate a soccer camp for the youth.

"I learned to appreciate all the opportunities in life that I've had, which a lot of Haitians will never get."
