Four Staff Back from Kenya

July 6, 2010

Four HFL staff arrived back yesterday from a week of traveling in Kenya. Dave, Heidi, Chad and Jackie were there to meet with our field partners and to further access the projects HFL is facilitating there. They arrived in Kisumu, staying at Edgar's home and preparing some details for the Kakamega 2010 Shekinah team that will be there in a few weeks. From the big city, they traveled to projects sites in Kakamega, Siaya and Boro. They visited with the orphans and Grace at the Mukumu Children's Home (Kakamega) as well as the widow house mothers and the orphans at the Siaya orphan home. In Boro they saw Pastor Michael and the market gardens (a CIDA initiative) that are multiplying and providing needed food and income for many families there.

As the staff team was traveling and visiting, they heard many encouraging words. Dave comments that, "After about 5 years of working in Kenya, in various communities, we are seeing a world transformed."  Here's a sample of what people there are saying about how their lives have been changed.

  • "Now our family has a regular source of income."
  • "We are growing all of the food our family needs...and selling to rest to pay for school fees."
  • "In just one year...I was able to save enough money to build a good house for my family."
  • "We thank God for another classroom so that more children can go to school."
  • "Because of the clean water less people in our area are sick."
  • "For years we have been importing food into this area...now we are able to export food and sell to other communities."
  • "My family's income is ten times what it was before."
  • "We (orphan homes) are now able to grow all of the vegetables we need and our food costs have been reduced by 50%. With money we are saving we can get more regular medical treatment for the children who are HIV positive."

Thank you to those who have been involved in the work in Kenya-whether as a donor, team member, or a staff supporter! Please continue to pray with us that God would continue to change life there-and change us in the process!
