Haiti Earthquake Response Update #1
January 13, 2010
Hungry For Life has heard from both our partners in Haiti-Haiti ARISE (www.haitiarise.org ) and Haiti Children's Home (www.haitichildrenshome.com )--and all are safe! Currently, Lisa from Haiti ARISE is in Canada with her three children and heard from Marc earlier today. Here is what she has said regarding the situation there:
"Marc is there with a team of 24 from Nelson, BC. [The team was a non-HFL facilitated team and arrived in country hours before the earthquake hit]. All are safe. They had made it to Grand-Goave from the airport in PAP just before the earthquake hit yesterday. They spent the night in a school bus for sure of safety at another mission in town, as our own facility may have been compromised by the quake. Marc, the leaders and team are back at our compound now, assessing the damage and we are awaiting with baited breath for any news that may come. Please pray that God will open the lines of communication!! And that our friends and young people who are living in PAP for school or other things are all safe!"
Hungry For Life is waiting to hear back from Haiti ARISE as to the damage and we will be working with them in the coming weeks to assess their most critical needs. Because of the extent of the damage to the country's infrastructure, now is not an ideal time to send any teams; instead we will be helping to send as much financial aid as possible to help with the immediate needs of the people there, and working on a strategic plan for future teams to help with rebuilding. We will keep you updated as we have information; please also check out the above websites.
As stated yesterday, we are receiving donations that will be used to either provide the basics of food, water, and medical attention and / or assistance in reconstruction. As with all Hungry For Life projects, 100% of funds given to this project will be used for this project. Click here to be re-directed to a secure donation page, and in the "Donation Designation" section, select "Projects - Haiti: Earthquake Response" from the drop-down menu.
